Register for work
Follow the steps below to register for work with the ILWU Local 400 Marine Section. Only registered applicants may apply for jobs on the job line.
How it works
Eight steps to the dispatch list

Gather your documents
Gather all marine-related documents from Transport Canada or your nautical school. If you are unsure what to register for, see the certification requirements and find the relevant section. Please don't try registering until you have all your documents and certifications together — partial applications will not be accepted or processed.

Book an appointment
Call the office to make an appointment with Officer Andrew McKenna. If you live within British Columbia's southwest region or on Vancouver Island south of Courtenay, registrations are done in person (no exceptions). Alternate arrangements may be made based on officer availability for anyone outside the specified regions. In-person registrations are given priority and completed at the time of registration; online registrations are completed as the Officer's schedule allows.

Bring photocopies
Please bring photocopies of all your documents — you do not have to worry about the originals.

Confirm before you come
Call the office one hour before your appointment time to ensure the office is open.

Call on arrival
Upon arrival in the parking lot, call the office and someone will let you into the building.

Keep your file active
Your information will not be kept on file for longer than 6 months, so you must register for work twice a year. If you do not wish to re-register, call in and connect with the Officer every two months to ensure your file stays active.

Stay reachable
If the Officer cannot reach you, your name may be removed from the dispatch list. Be sure to provide a correct phone number and keep it updated with the Union.

Applying to HaiSea Marine?
If you are looking for employment with HaiSea Marine and are a member of the Haisla, Gitxaała, or Gitga'at nations, please mention this in your registration application or email. If you are Indigenous but not part of the above nations, feel free to mention your Indigenous status or not. If you are not Indigenous, simply follow steps 1–4.
